Store customer detained by security guard as suspected shoplifter and injured while being restrained awarded $10 million in damages in suit against store claiming negligent hiring and training of guard and excessive use of force.

Homeless woman in shelter awarded $2.08 million in damages, including $2 million in punitive damages, on claim that security guard assaulted her and that employing security firm failed to adequately train guard on how to deal with homeless persons.

May 1995, TX, Dallas County 116th Judicial District Court
$5 million settlement in suit by family of deceased female tenant against apartment complex owner and management; suit claimed that tenant was killed by brother of complex's assistant manager and that it was negligent hiring to hire assistant manager without a criminal background check.

$12 million settlement in negligent hiring, training, and supervision suit; suit alleged armored truck company did not adequately investigate employee's past work record or provide adequate driver training.

Carpet cleaning business liable for $1 million for negligent hiring of employee who allegedly murdered two students while cleaning a carpet in a home; employee had prior arrest for drugs, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting arrest with violence.

Employer settles for $2.5 million suit seeking to hold it liable for negligent hiring and entrustment of intoxicated security guard who had on-duty traffic accident in company car which killed himself and another motorist.
