American DataBank
adopts advanced technology
to protect background
check reports
Id
theft has affected a large portion of the U.S. population . In
2004, Javelin Strategy & Research
reported that approximately 9.3 million people were victims of
identity theft. According to Michigan State University, over
half of all identity thefts can be traced back to the workplace.
One company, American DataBank, has taken steps toward protecting
such Personal Identifiable Information (PII).
American
DataBank provides nationwide web-based pre-employment screening
services. Protecting personal identifiable information is of
the utmost importance to such a company. CEO Toshi Akiyama of
American DataBank Group comments; “The protection of personal
information is a paramount of data security and American DataBank,
as a leader of web-based background screening, has committed to
provide the most secure and reliable technology to our clients.
Now we’re extending that leadership to the protection of
Personal Identifiable Information.”
Recent Legislation
Since
the House Bill H. R. 3997 was passed, companies such as American
DataBank, for example, now have an obligation to implement policies
and procedures that will protect the security and confidentiality
of sensitive personal identifiable information. In response,
American DataBank now offers Vincera Inc.’s VAM! Intelligent Protection
Application. VAM! is an information distribution and control software
application technology that greatly reduces the risk of security
breaches inherent in the electronic distribution and storage of
sensitive information. Vincera Inc.’s VAM! enables American
DataBank to set business driven rules that will secure, track,
and manage the distribution of documents that contain personal
identifiable information well beyond the company’s corporate
firewall and known universe of users. Mr. Akiyama. States that; “with
Vincera’s Intelligent Protection Application, the document
becomes traceable and can be deactivated. We are providing the
best in security protection service by protecting every electronic
distributed background check report from theft, alteration, or
illicit use”.
New Technology
Vincera
Inc.’s VAM! Intelligent Protection Application is
an intelligent distribution awareness application that protects
electronic documents that may contain sensitive information from
unauthorized users. This product exceeds current data security
expectations, as it is able to track where these documents are
being distributed and who is viewing them. Not only will Vincera
Inc.’s VAM! Intelligent Protection Application allow American
DataBank to know where this information is located, but also the
protected document can be deactivated if it has reached an unauthorized
user. In other words, Vincera Inc.’s VAM! allows American
DataBank to create a map of where electronically distributed files
have been sent, who has viewed the file and the time of access.
This information can be very helpful for clients of American DataBank.
For example, if a client of American DataBank has an employee that
recently left the company, the client can instruct American DataBank
to disallow that employee from viewing any protected documents
that may have left the company’s reach. Even outside the
client’s information system, American DataBank can track
and deactivate VAM! protected documents.
With
the implementation of Vincera Inc.’s
VAM! it is also possible to set business-based rules that protect
and restrict sensitive information to an approved base of users
at a specified time. This will further eliminate unauthorized
distribution of information. With use of this product, a business
can control Personal Identifiable Information and restrict access
so only an exclusively accepted group of recipients may view
documents.
More legislation is expected to pass that will require stricter
protocols, procedures and policies for information security. Vincera
Inc. has recognized this as a strong possibility and therefore
has created this advanced technology in preparation for tougher
regulations. American DataBank foresees the need for this type
of document security and has quickly moved to adopt this technology
in order to provide the most advanced protection for their clients
and business.
